Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe environment, and supporting quality improvement activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Patient Care: Educate patients on treatment and disease management, evaluate vascular access, monitor vital signs, initiate and discontinue dialysis, document treatment, and respond to patient needs and emergencies.
- Staff Support: Assist in training staff and ensure adherence to infection control policies.
- Record Keeping: Document treatment data accurately, prepare patient charts, and manage laboratory specimens.
- Infection Control: Support infection prevention practices and participate in audits.
- Transitional Care: Support new patients through their initial dialysis experiences and coordinate care options.
Physical Demands: Includes lifting, standing, and working in a healthcare environment with exposure to infectious materials.
Qualifications: High School diploma or G.E.D., relevant state licensure, and certification requirements. Prior patient care experience preferred. Must complete dialysis training and CPR certification.
