Job description We are recruiting on behalf of a public sector client for a Painter to join their Property Maintenance team on a 3-month temporary contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled painter to contribute to the upkeep and enhancement of council properties across Belfast. About the Role Reporting to the Area Contract Manager (Building) or other designated officer, the Painter will carry out a range of painting and decorating tasks, ensuring all work meets high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. This role includes reactive and planned maintenance tasks, preparation of surfaces, and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety standards. Key Responsibilities Perform a full range of painting and decorating duties, including: Preparing different types of surfaces (external and internal). Applying undercoat, gloss, emulsion, varnishes, stains, and glazes. Hanging wallpaper and wall coverings, including specialist coverings like 'Muraspec'. Treating issues such as cracking, flaking, and blistering of surfaces. Erect and dismantle scaffolding, working safely at heights. Ensure proper and safe use of tools, materials, and equipment, including ladders, brushes, and thinners. Carry out reactive and planned maintenance work in council properties. Work from painting schedules and specifications as required. Identify, order, and collect materials for projects. Participate in performance management and billing procedures. Provide on-the-job coaching and training to new employees, contractors, apprentices, and other relevant staff. Drive council vehicles as required and, where necessary, use personal transport to carry out duties. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work legislation, CDM regulations, and council policies. Complete and sign off all required paperwork, including job completion records. Essential Criteria Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must, as at the closing date for receipt of applications: Hold an NVQ Level II in Painting and Decorating or an equivalent qualification. Possess a full, current driving licence valid in Northern Ireland, or have access to transport that meets the requirements of the role. Demonstrate at least one year's relevant experience in each of the following areas: Preparing surfaces for painting and decorating. Erecting and dismantling equipment in compliance with health and safety standards. Painting and decorating in a building maintenance environment.
