About The Role
Lloyd & Whyte, who are proudly part of Benefact Group, are looking for an experienced Underwriter to join our Mi Specialty team in their Manchester location. This individual will be responsible for:
- Underwriting Commercial risks from a regional designated panel of broking intermediaries within Company underwriting authority levels.
- Work collaboratively with both external Insurer and Re-Insurer partners in delivering underwriting solutions to broking intermediaries.
- To achieve profitable growth in line with Mi Specialty's regional and company wide objectives and to provide a reference point for training of technical underwriting and product knowledge.
The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of the Northern Insurance markets and proven experience in Commercial Insurance Underwriting within the UK, through MGA businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- To comply with and follow at all times the Underwriting Authorities applicable and to ensure that standards of Underwriting are in accordance with Company Guidelines and within the Binding Authorities.
- Ensure service standards are met and to ensure work is carried out within the Treating Customers Fairly/Contract Certainty Guidelines.
- To ensure that all internal and external customers including anyone within the L&W Group, claimants, service providers and third parties who may come into contact with Mi Specialty personnel are dealt with in a professional manner.
- To ensure all work and conduct adheres to Company Policy and specific Mi Specialty Underwriting procedures and to ensure all Conflicts of Interest are reported to the Director of Underwriting once identified.
- To generally assist in the regional MGA business planning process as well as specifically in respect of classes personally written.
- Attend market seminars and training courses, to further develop and practice industry and personal skills.
- Be conversant with Lloyd's, the FSA and local office reporting requirements including Coverholder regulatory terms and conditions.
- Underwrite new business profitably, accurately and in line with established Underwriting practice.
- Assist with maintaining and developing business relationships with intermediaries and respond to customers' requests for information whilst actively seeking to develop new brokers and regularly meet with them to discuss new business development opportunities and development of existing business.
- Issue quotations including new and renewal, Policy Documentation, including Endorsements, Mid Term Adjustments, Survey Risk Improvements in a timely and professional manner, ensuring compliance with Company TCF and CC guidelines.
- To assist with the development and implementation of procedures and business process re-engineering; reviewing procedures ensuring they are up to date, accurate and appropriate for the business.
- To maintain compliance with any applicable UK or International statutory or regulatory obligation as required by the role.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Previous experience working in a similar role & location.
- Excellent knowledge of the Northern Insurance markets (predominantly Manchester).
- Proven experience in Commercial Insurance Underwriting within the UK, through MGA businesses.
