As lead Pharmacy Technician you will, under the guidance of Spectrum Lead Pharmacist and senior management team at HMP Deerbolt, lead the Pharmacy team in the provision of a safe, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical service to prisoners (hereafter known as service users).
Main duties of the job:
- This role will involve mentoring and developing the skillset of the wider pharmacy team by improving patient safety in line with the national strategy for medicines optimisation and pharmacy services.
- You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the in-house dispensary ensuring efficiency and consistency.

Person specification
Qualification:
- BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
- Appropriate accredited technician checking qualification.
- Higher degree-based qualification or equivalent experience
- Management or additional clinical qualifications relevant to prison healthcare
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of medicines optimisation issues
- Pharmacy legal requirements and controlled drug legislation
- At least 3 years post-qualification experience of working in community/hospital pharmacy.
- Experience of working with potentially aggressive people
- Experience of working within challenging and complex situations
- Able to provide examples of diversity in practice
- Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
- Has a good understanding of security issues in relation to the prison environment
- Substance misuse knowledge
- Experience of working with substance misusers/services
- Experience of working in a prison environment or similar setting
Skills:
- Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology
- Computer literate - able to use Word and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to prepare reports, bulletins and run prescribing audits.
