We're currently building our next big project: a collaboration with a world-renowned name, an epic-scale military sci-fi fantasy, free-to-play game focused on delivering cinematic visual quality and a rich, immersive world. Now in the early stages of pre-production and prototyping, we're looking for a Systems Designer. You will be working within a multidisciplinary team of developers in a global community and can share your knowledge and continue to develop your skill set by learning from your teammates.
Reports to: Game Designer.
What will you do?
- Design and implement gameplay systems and player abilities that support and enhance the core vision of the game.
- Balance mechanics and abilities to ensure they feel rewarding, fair, and engaging across a wide range of player types and skill levels.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, animators, VFX, and other designers to bring your systems to life in a technically sound and creatively aligned way.
- Prototype and iterate in Unreal Engine (Blueprints) to quickly validate ideas and tune gameplay feel.
- Author clear, concise documentation and effectively communicate your designs to internal teams and external development partners.
- Use internal playtests, player feedback, and telemetry to tune, refine, and evolve your systems over time.
What are we looking for?
- Proven experience as a Systems Designer in the games industry.
- Strong understanding of combat gameplay and system interactions.
- Experience designing, implementing, and balancing abilities or player-facing systems.
- Skilled in Unreal Engine (Blueprints) and working collaboratively with engineering teams to bring features to life.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills — able to clearly articulate design intent and decisions.
- Comfortable working from abstract or high-level direction and turning it into meaningful gameplay.
What additional skills will help you stand out?
- Experience working on multiplayer PvP action games, particularly 3rd- or 1st-person.
- Familiarity with vehicle combat systems or mixed-mode gameplay.
- Shipped or contributed to a live or free-to-play title, especially in a systems or combat-focused role.
- Strong balancing experience across combat systems and player abilities.
- Prior experience collaborating with distributed development teams across time zones.
Work mode: Hybrid - 3 days of work from the Guildford office. This role is not eligible for relocation/immigration support.
