We are seeking a technically strong Tax Reporting and Compliance Manager to lead the preparation and review of corporate tax reporting and compliance across the group. This role focuses on ensuring the accuracy and integrity of tax reporting under UK GAAP/IFRS and maintaining robust corporate tax compliance processes in line with legislative and regulatory requirements. This role requires technical knowledge of UK tax legislation and accounting for income taxes, combined with strong process management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Reporting: Ownership of group-wide tax accounting under IFRS or UK GAAP, including current and deferred tax computations and related disclosures. Preparation and review of tax provisions and associated notes to the financial statements at year-end. Ensure tax balances are accurately reflected in the general ledger and reconciled with statutory accounts.
- Tax Compliance: Review and oversee the preparation of UK corporate tax returns, including detailed analysis of adjustments, claims (e.g., capital allowances, R&D), and group relief. Monitor and manage compliance deadlines across the group, ensuring all filings and payments are made on time (including withholding tax compliance and group payment arrangement). Support international tax compliance (either in-house or with external advisors), ensuring accuracy and consistency with group policies.
- Technical Advisory: Provide technical input on complex tax areas including deferred tax, financing arrangements, corporate interest restriction (CIR), loss restriction rules, and controlled foreign companies (CFCs). Interpret legislative and regulatory changes and assess the impact on group tax reporting and compliance obligations. Draft technical memos and documentation to support tax positions and audit readiness.
- Governance and Controls: Assist in maintaining and enhancing tax risk and control frameworks, including compliance with the UK Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) regime. Develop and maintain tax risk registers and controls matrices. Liaise with auditors and HMRC as part of the annual tax audit and any inquiries or reviews.
- Process Improvement: Drive process efficiencies and automation in the tax compliance and reporting processes. Develop and maintain process documentation for key tax activities. Support finance systems integration and tax technology implementations as required.
- Advisory Support: Provide internal advice on the tax implications of business transactions, restructurings, and intercompany activity. Work closely with finance, legal, and commercial teams to ensure alignment on tax-related matters.
Qualifications & Experience:
- ACA/ACCA and/or CTA qualified (or equivalent).
- Strong technical expertise in UK corporate tax legislation and accounting for income taxes under IFRS/UK GAAP.
- Minimum of 4β6 yearsβ experience in a tax-focused role, ideally from a top-tier firm and/or in-house tax team.
- Experience preparing and reviewing tax provisions and computations and CIR calculations for complex groups.
- Experience working with tax reporting tools and finance systems (e.g., Alphatax, Oracle NetSuite).
- Knowledge of international tax compliance is an advantage but not essential.
