Are you a curious and motivated data analyst with a passion for the environment? We’re seeking an Environmental Data Analyst to join APEM’s Water Data Science team at the Consultant level. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their data career to work on complex, real-world projects in the environmental sector. You will collaborate with experienced analysts, ecologists, and water specialists to process and interpret data on water quality, hydrology, habitat condition, and ecological status—contributing to nationally significant work for water companies, regulators, and developers.
Your responsibilities will include data cleaning, scripting, visualization, and interpretation, using tools like R, GIS, and Excel. You will help produce impactful reports and receive support to develop your skills, assume greater responsibilities, and shape your career path.
Qualifications and Skills
- A BSc or MSc in environmental science, data science, ecology, hydrology, mathematics/statistics, or a related field
- At least 1 year of professional or academic experience working with environmental datasets
- Proficiency in R for data analysis and visualization
- Knowledge of GIS platforms (preferably QGIS or ArcGIS)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and a logical approach to problem-solving
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently on projects
Desirable Skills
- Experience in a consultancy or commercial environment
- Familiarity with UK freshwater monitoring datasets and policies (e.g., WFD)
