We are seeking a Geospatial Insight & Analytics Manager to lead the development and delivery of spatial insight and modelling that supports high-impact, data-led decisions across our commercial, property, and strategic planning functions.

What You'll Love

In this role, you will shape and deliver advanced geospatial analytics, visual insights, and strategic recommendations that influence decisions at every level of the organisation. Working in a hybrid cloud environment (ESRI, Databricks), you will apply your expertise in spatial data, modelling, and visualisation to real-world challenges such as location strategy, online delivery, targeted marketing, and customer analytics. You will also mentor and manage our geospatial analyst, helping to grow our spatial capabilities and foster a high-performance culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create Value Through Spatial Insight: Lead the development and delivery of geospatial analytics that solve strategic problems, quantify business value, and support major transformation initiatives.
  • Advanced Geospatial Analytics: Apply spatial modelling and analytical techniques using tools such as Databricks and ESRI ArcGIS to deliver actionable insights.
  • Lead with Purpose: Mentor and develop our analyst while setting high standards of analytical quality, objectivity, and insight that directly influence business outcomes.
  • Engage & Influence Senior Stakeholders: Collaborate with senior leaders across departments to scope spatial opportunities, challenge assumptions, and embed geospatial data into the heart of decision-making.
  • Insight Generation: Translate complex geospatial datasets into accessible and actionable insights that support strategic planning and operational decisions.
  • Enable Data-Driven Decisions: Drive the development of visual narratives using tools like Power BI and ArcGIS that translate spatial data into insight business users can act on.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direct line management and mentorship to geospatial analysts, ensuring high-quality output and professional development.
  • Strategic Contribution: Lead geospatial analytics projects from concept to impact — aligning deliverables to business needs while ensuring clarity, reproducibility, and robustness in all outputs.
  • Promote Best Practice in Geospatial Analytics: Champion consistent spatial methodologies, peer learning, and a strong value mindset across the wider insight community at Asda.

Essential What You'll Need

  • Proven experience leading geospatial analytics in a complex, data-driven environment.
  • Highly proficient in SQL/Python and have familiarity with GIS technologies.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex spatial insights to senior, non-technical stakeholders.
  • A track record of translating geospatial insight into commercial action and decision support.
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior colleagues, setting clear expectations and driving performance.
  • Comfortable leading geospatial projects autonomously, including scoping, delivery, and iteration.
  • Degree in a numerate, geography, or analytical field.

Desirable

  • Proficient in spatial data science and modelling techniques.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
  • Experience using BI tools such as Power BI/Tableau.
  • Background in retail, FMCG, or other data-rich industries.
