Join to apply for the Professional Support Lawyer - Pensions role at Shoosmiths. The role requires experienced legal advisers, and we are keen to speak with accomplished pensions lawyers who are looking for an alternative role which will be central in helping us to achieve our ambitions.

The successful candidate will work within the pensions team and ideally will be based in one of our offices where the Pensions team is located: Birmingham, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Solent or Thames Valley. We may be flexible on location however so please get in touch if you're based elsewhere and would like to discuss.

The pensions team sits within the Advisory Services Division (ASD), one of Shoosmiths’ 4 operational divisions. ASD provides commercial legal advice and services to the firm’s clients, primarily supporting their trading and related activities. ASD’s clients consist predominantly of medium to large corporates and financial institutions, pension fund trustees and other entities including public bodies, SMEs, and charities. Occasionally ASD will act for individuals in as far as the mandate relates to the individuals employment status and/or commercial activity.

Within ASD, the pensions team is recognised as one of the top pensions practices outside London. We are currently ranked as a Band 2 national practice in Chambers & Partners and our ambition is to achieve a Band 1 ranking as a national practice. The Pensions team comprises 6 partners, 6 legal advisers and a trainee. The team has had a designated PSL from 2021.

Main Responsibilities:

  • The PSL will have responsibility for managing, or in supporting in the areas described below:
  • Keeping the team up to date on legal developments relevant to pensions.
  • Production of client-facing materials and training.
  • External commentary and thought-leadership both generally and through the team’s intermediary relationships.
  • Maintenance of precedents and tool kits.
