The Design and Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation. This team is responsible for researching the best materials at the best cost. In terms of design, there’s a wide variety of sites, many using existing buildings, each with unique challenges. The team also explores new materials and drives sustainability and value, all while navigating changing building and environmental legislation. Most team members have an architectural or engineering background. We offer opportunities to gain expertise in design and project management in a stimulating environment.

Reporting to the Technical Manager, responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating external design consultants
  • Obtaining building control approvals
  • Discharging planning conditions
  • Procuring mains services
  • Providing Construction Issue drawings for site starts
  • Supporting site operations

You will be expected to:

  • Obtain Technical Drawings and approvals for efficient site starts
  • Minimize risk by providing timely, high-quality information
  • Manage external consultants in preparing and issuing production information within scope, fee, and schedule
  • Assist in preparing Design Programmes and present at Progression Meetings
  • Handle statutory enquiries, sewer connections, and legal agreements to ensure timely completion
  • Oversee NHBC/Building Regulations applications for approval
  • Ensure working drawings align with approved Planning Schemes and discharge planning and building control conditions
  • Monitor and control production information in collaboration with the Commercial Department to stay within budget
  • Monitor and update the Professional Fees budget monthly
  • Manage Group Policies and Procedures effectively
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of Brochure Plans, Conveyance Plans, and Sales Area drawings
  • Attend site progress meetings and conduct site inspections
  • Participate in meetings at various project stages and liaise with internal and external parties
  • Attend subcontractor interviews and meetings as appropriate
  • Respond to site queries and resolve technical/construction issues
  • Issue drawings and information for construction purposes

To succeed, candidates should have:

  • A qualification as a Civil/Building Engineer or a related degree, or HNC/HND in a built environment with relevant experience
  • Good technical knowledge of house and apartment construction
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations, NHBC, Party Wall Awards, and related legislation
  • Strong communication, meeting, and management skills for working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Problem-solving skills to address issues promptly
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • A customer-focused attitude
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels and high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in relevant IT tools, including AutoCAD/Revit
