The main purpose of the role is to provide a high level of technical support across West Mercia Police; both to internal and to external customers. You will ideally be in 3rd or 4th line support currently with an in-depth understanding within your areas of expertise as well as a general understanding of wider technologies.
Successful candidates will need to ensure that the department is offering the best level of service to its customers in terms of ICT infrastructure, specialist applications and services. This will be through technical support, proactive maintenance, as well as working on projects of varying sizes.
This role (Level 4) is of a subject matter expert (SME) level, where successful candidates within the department will be responsible, directly and indirectly (working with 3rd-parties), for key areas of infrastructure. Therefore we are seeking people with this expert level of knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services
- Microsoft Exchange Email services
- Microsoft Servers, Roles and Features (PowerShell, IIS, DNS, DHCP, ADFS .. and so on)
- Microsoft SCCM (Not just patching and end points, needs to be able to demonstrate architecture-level knowledge for this)
- Virtualisation, such as Hyper-V and/or VMWare
- Virtual Desktop Infrastructure – such as Citrix VDA
Other desirable areas:
- Identity management – Sailpoint
- Cryptography and security principles
- Security threats and mitigations
- Load balancers (Including GSLB)
- Cloud / Microsoft Office 365 – (such as: DNS, Azure, Migration and administration.)
It would be desirable for you to have some people management experience. This role will be part of an on call rota and additional allowances will be paid. This is a hybrid working role.

This role is commutable from Kidderminster, Birmingham, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Hereford, Malvern, Ledbury, Evesham, Redditch, Bromsgrove, Bewdley, Droitwich Spa and Pershore and is just off junction 6 of the M5.
