MK College Group have an exciting new opportunity for a creative Business Studies Lecturer to join the team based at HMP Isle of Wight. As a Business Studies Lecturer, you will be actively engaging prison-based learners with creative classes and resources. Many of the learners have a diverse range of needs and learning abilities, and they will often have had a negative experience with education. As a successful Business Studies Teacher, you will truly inspire them and provide learners with a positive learning experience.
You will be connecting with learners in a professional manner, supporting them with their learning, enabling them to achieve success through not only qualifications but developing the confidence and softer skills that they can apply to employment as well as other areas of education. We are seeking an individual who can communicate well with learners to inspire and motivate them. The average class consists of 8-10 learners and the sessions are approximately 2.5 hours long. Your lessons will need to be adaptable, innovative, and imaginative.
In addition, there may be additional hours available to cover staff absence in subjects such as Maths, English, ESOL, IT, and art.

ABOUT HMP Isle Of Wight: HMP Isle of Wight is a Category-B prison with an operational capacity of 1101 spaces. In addition to the main residential areas, there is a Remand Unit, a Segregation and Rehabilitation Unit and an internal hospital. Prisoners located in these areas are encouraged to engage with the education offer. The College team typically delivers its programmes in two main College areas of the prison; 16 classrooms in total (8 in Parkhurst (PK) and 8 in Albany (AY)). There are also vocational workshops; Painting and Decorating in PK (PT) and Painting and Decorating in AY (FT). The education delivery hours are Monday to Thursday 9.25am - 11.35am, 13.40pm - 16.50pm and on Fridays 8.25am - 11.35am, with most staff working on-site 8:00am - 5:00pm each day and 8:00am - 12:30pm on Fridays. Class sizes typically range from 8-12 learners. The majority of learners study on a part-time basis, combining other prison activities with their college studies. The department also supports learners undertaking Distance Learning and Open University courses. We provide Outreach learning opportunities for hesitant learners and non-reader/low level learners via a network of Learning & Skills Peer Supports and the Reading and More class.
HMP Isle of Wight's focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational based training and education, in a pro-social environment. Courses at HMP Isle of Wight include Maths, English, IT, Business courses at L1, L2, L3, Art, Mentoring, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Painting and Decorating at L1, L2, L3, Open University, Reading and More and Learning Support.
Parking is free at HMP Isle of Wight with ample availability across the site. The post code for the Parkhurst site is PO30 5NX and for Albany is PO30 5RS. There are bus stops directly outside the prison sites with route 9 from Ryde to Newport and route 1 from Cowes to Newport. Small lockers are available, particularly for those using public transport, for storing prohibited items such as mobile phone/tobacco products.
