Your role: As a Senior Station Technician, most of your time will be utilised ensuring that our Tamar All-Weather Lifeboat, D Class Inshore Lifeboat and associated equipment work to the highest order, ensuring that the Lifeboat Station is well managed, and assist training volunteer crew members - so that when a service call does occur, you, your crew and your lifeboat will be absolutely prepared. You will not be the sole individual working on the lifeboat and its equipment. You will also lead and work alongside our team of mechanic volunteers at the station and our wider technical support staff to ensure the equipment is maintained to the required standards.

The role of Senior Station Technician is focused for those individuals with an NVQ L4/SVQ L5 in an engineering discipline, a time served engineering apprenticeship, or sound background and experience in mechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering. If these qualifications or experience are not held then suitable individuals may be offered a Station Technician role in lieu.

Your role will include:

  • Inspiring and motivating your team; supporting their development, conducting shore-based training, identifying ways they can improve and imparting your valuable knowledge.
  • Meeting and talking to the public about your station’s work. Tenby Lifeboat Station is open to the public and has a high number of visitors.
  • Taking a lead on Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment issues, helping to develop a positive culture within the station.
  • Spending time in the day to day running of the Lifeboat Station; this may be in the form of answering e-mails, ensuring records are maintained and working with the Operations Team.

About you: You will have the ability to build effective relationships with volunteers at the lifeboat station, the supporters locally, and RNLI staff beyond, while acting as an ambassador for the station and the RNLI within the community. You will be someone who already holds or is willing and able to work towards the required qualifications and competencies for this role. If you don’t have everything mentioned in the job spec, please still apply, we are keen to hear how your previous experience could fit with this role in the RNLI. Attitude and willingness to progress and learn are most important.

You will be personally motivated, prepared to work in isolation and as part of a team, keen to solve problems, drive your own development and support others to develop. You will have high quality interpersonal skills and the ability to build open and inclusive relationships. You will take pride in your work and be willing to ask for and receive feedback.
