Position Overview: We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Maintenance Apprentice to join our Site Services team here at our Head Office in South Shields. During this apprenticeship, you will be working alongside the existing Site Services Engineers to carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive activities and small works to the buildings within the Barbour Estate. The primary tasks of this role are to repair and maintain Barbour M&E and Building Fabric assets to comply with statutory responsibilities. Weβre looking for a proactive individual who is willing to learn, is flexible and adaptable with a strong work ethic and a 'can do' positive attitude.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, repair and maintain the Mechanical and Electrical systems in the Barbour Estate.
- To complete statutory work including testing and recording of current installations.
- To diagnose technical faults, evaluate requirements, procurement and conduct repairs.
- To carry out PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) and reactive maintenance (including statutory and non-statutory works).
- To work to specific maintenance programs whilst completing the appropriate paperwork.
- To ensure compliance to safe systems of work for all services are complied with.
- Provide technical support and solutions to the Site Services team and the business.
- This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers to carry and assist in all aspects of M&E Building Maintenance.
- To perform any other duties including completing training programs relevant to grade which might be specified by your manager.
Skills and Experience:
- Qualifications acceptable on entry are a minimum of GCSE at Grade 4 in Mathematics, English and 2 additional GCSE subjects.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Enthusiastic, willing to learn, punctual, reliable and committed.
- You must be hard working and have good communication skills.

Additional Information:
Whilst the role will predominantly be based in South Shields, there may be a requirement to travel to other sites within the Barbour Estate. This is a temporary role, the successful applicant will work towards a Level 3 Electrical Installation Application qualification for the duration of their contract.
