We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this position is Mon-Fri – dayshift. Ward 6A and 6B at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital are looking for a highly motivated and dependable person to join the team as a Housekeeper. The post will be full time, 37 hours, worked Monday to Friday.

The main function of the post includes co-ordinating cleaning, catering and minor maintenance together with other specified tasks as directed by the Senior Charge Nurse/deputy to ensure a safe environment. The post holder will be expected to work as part of the ward teams, to be responsible for delivery of a wide range of activities to support the ward team by the maintenance of high quality environment for patients and visitors.

Daily duties will be:

  • Working within the ward team, to ensure that patient comfort is maintained at all times.
  • To respond to patient concerns about ward support services (cleaning, catering, maintenance, environment) and act appropriately to resolve or correct any issues that arise.
  • Assisting clinical teams in ensuring the environment for care is maintained to a high standard and ensuring stock required for each ward is ordered appropriately, stock rotation and lean principles are adhered to.
  • To provide information for patients, their relatives and visitors about the Hospital and relevant equipment.
  • To escort able bodied patients that pose no clinical risk, carers and relatives around the hospital as required.
  • To work with the ward clerk as required ensuring continuity and to carry out basic duties such as answering telephones, message taking, photocopying and organising incoming/outgoing post as required.
  • To ensure that patient’s personal belongings are handled with respect and stored in secure lockable areas and to transport items to the cashier’s office as required.
