As part of the Flexible Pipe Systems Offshore team based in Newcastle UK, you will be joining an established business and team with expertise in pipe design, manufacturing, and installation. This unique combination allows our customers to increase production and asset integrity whilst reducing the overall costs associated with a pipeline system.

The HSE Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. This role involves ensuring compliance with legal standards, promoting a safe start and execution approach whilst providing leadership in HSE management throughout the organization.

You will have extensive experience of building and sustaining interdependent HSE cultures and deep domain knowledge of how to foster and support an operational environment where HSE is the paramount consideration; every time. You will be a key asset and member of the site leadership team and will already be conversant with the demands and rigor expected within the high tempo of manufacturing operations.

As a HSE Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Policy Development: Develop and implement HSE policies and procedures. Ensure that policies are updated in line with legal requirements and industry best practices. Liaison with governmental bodies – UK HSE and EA. Complete integration with operations and other support functions to accelerate cultural maturity.
  • Compliance Management: Monitor and ensure compliance with HSE regulations and standards. Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions. Lead ISO 45001/14001 surveillance audits on site. Lead BH HSE the site within the HSE Governance audit process including critical HSE system integrity self-assessment.
  • Training and Awareness: Design and deliver training programs to educate employees on HSE practices and promote a safety-first culture. Lead safety meetings and workshops to ensure ongoing engagement in HSE initiatives. Lead BH and Product Line HSE initiatives for site adoption.
  • Incident Management: Manage and investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing preventive measures. Maintain accurate records and reports on HSE performance metrics. Promote Human Performance techniques across the span of HSE incident management both proactively in normal work and reactively post incident.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards in the workplace. Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement safety measures in new processes and projects. Collaboration in site MOC process to identify HSE risks within the change process.
  • Environmental Management: Develop and oversee environmental management systems to minimize the ecological impact of operations. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices within the organization. Define waste reduction strategies and cost minimisation. Collaboration with other support functions to measure and reduce carbon footprint at site.
  • Reporting and Communication: Prepare and present HSE reports to senior management, highlighting performance, incidents, and compliance status. Foster open communication regarding HSE matters across all levels of the organization. Lead site HSE team to support operations through best practice, mentorship and practical leadership.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field or strong experience in HSE management, preferably within the manufacturing or oil and gas sectors.
  • Have strong knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Have excellent communication, training, and leadership skills.
  • Possess tactical knowledge of Human Factors and best available techniques.
  • Possess experience and domain expertise of heavy manufacturing processes.
  • Possess front line HSE experience in building and sustaining an interdependent HSE culture.
  • Hold certification in NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualification is preferred.
  • Emphasis on Health and Safety versus Environment.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
