Our client is a leading baby products and furniture company, who are looking for a Sewing Machinist to join their product development team. You will focus on creating and refining fabric-based prototypes for baby products. Working closely alongside the design and engineering teams, you will be responsible for building three-dimensional sewn samples, adjusting patterns and testing prototypes to ensure proper fit, function and visual appeal.

Sewing Machinist Responsibilities

  • Construct high-quality prototypes using industrial sewing machines and appropriate materials
  • Create, refine and modify patterns, templates and die cuts
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to improve fit, function, and user experience
  • Tackle technical challenges including seam performance, material tension, and frame compatibility
  • Keep detailed records of pattern revisions and construction adjustments
  • Assist in transitioning prototypes to manufacturing by supporting documentation and supplier communications

Sewing Machinist Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in sewing, soft goods prototyping or related fabrication
  • Ideally a background in baby products, upholstery or complex soft goods
  • Familiar working across a variety of materials including fabrics, foams and technical textiles
  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings
