A client within the Public Sector based in Greater Manchester is currently recruiting for a CAD Engineer to join their Highways Engineering Design team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a traffic and highways environment.

The Role

Key purpose of the role is to support the delivery of technical highways and traffic projects across Manchester City Council’s road network, contributing to the development and design of sustainable transport schemes that enhance safety, accessibility and reliability across the city.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Supporting the design of walking, cycling, congestion management and road safety schemes
  • Designing and/or approving traffic calming and Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) schemes
  • Creating and modifying AutoCAD drawings, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance
  • Assisting with site surveys, collecting and evaluating data
  • Maintaining accurate project records, plans, and technical documentation
  • Participating in project meetings and contributing technical insights
  • Supporting delivery of customer-focused services aligned with local transport strategies

The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD with the ability to produce detailed drawings and plans
  • An understanding of traffic and highway design principles and project delivery
  • Experience working in a local authority, highways, or transport design setting

  • Familiarity with relevant highway design regulations and national guidance
  • Ability to organise and prioritise technical workloads
  • Strong communication and analytical skills

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £35 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £28 per hour PAYE).
