About the Team

This role sits in a small, fast-paced team which offers the chance to work in the centre of government and help deliver Treasury policy across broad and complex portfolios. It is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious candidate looking to progress, or kick start, a successful career in the Civil Service. The Chief Secretary’s Private Office is the key link between the Chief Secretary and the Department, providing them with full policy and administrative support. We are a 7-person team, and work closely with other Ministerial offices, Special Advisers, press office and policy teams; the office is at the centre of a wide range of Treasury decisions, particularly in public spending. While there can be exceptionally busy periods, we are a friendly and supportive office.

About the Job

In this role, you will:

  • Lead all aspects of the Chief Secretary’s diary, including arranging meetings on behalf of the Chief Secretary and ensuring they balance their ministerial, parliamentary, and personal priorities.
  • Process all incoming invitations (for meetings, speeches, receptions etc.) and advise the minister accordingly.
  • Co-ordinate and handle all logistical arrangements for meetings and ministerial visits to ensure they run efficiently, including commissioning briefing and agreeing travel arrangements where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the wider running of the office, including electronic filing, so that requests under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act can be met, and coordinating ministerial transparency and FOI returns.
  • Support the private secretaries in the day-to-day running of the office, including meeting and greeting visitors from reception.

As the Chief Secretary’s Diary Manager you will gain first-hand experience of core Government processes, including during high-profile fiscal events. You will enjoy a great deal of autonomy and benefit from opportunities to apply your judgment. You will contribute to an office ethos which focuses on well-being and development, at both a personal and team level.

  • Prioritise and adapt quickly to meet tight deadlines in a busy environment.
