Simmons & Hanbury have been exclusively instructed by a top tier global biotech business who are seeking a Senior Commercial Counsel to join a close knit team of lawyers. This is an exciting chance to grow and develop an existing legal function with the support of an experienced GC and legal team, with a particular focus on commercial contracts and procurement. The team is highly collegiate and the employer flexible and well regarded.
Reporting to the General Counsel you will be responsible for the following:
- Management of a Contracts Manager.
- Contract Management: Oversee the entire contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation, peer review, execution, and ongoing administration, ensuring alignment with business goals and compliance requirements. Prepare and manage key contractual documents such as CDAs, MSAs, Work Orders, Change Orders, Licenses, as well as review standard Terms and Conditions, adhering to agreed templates and the contracting playbook.
- Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and enhance contracting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and transparency. Leverage technology and tools to streamline contract management workflows. Support the ongoing development and refinement of contracting templates to meet evolving business needs.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between legal, procurement, finance, and other relevant departments to ensure smooth contract execution and enforcement. Provide guidance and support to stakeholders throughout the contracting process to ensure alignment and clarity.
- Drafting, reviewing, and amending a wide variety of commercial legal agreements.
Role Requirements
The successful candidate is expected to have:
- Common Law Qualifications.
- Trained at a reputable law firm.
- A minimum of 5-10+ PQE with particular focus on commercial contracts.
- Experience within life sciences and procurement is highly advantageous.
