Are you based in the South East of England? Are you an experienced Regional Sales Director with a solid successful background in a multisite Building Material Merchant or Drylining Supply business? Have you managed External Sales Consultants? Minster, specialists within the Insulation, Drying Lining and Fire Protection materials, is on the hunt for a Regional Sales Director covering multiple sites across the South Region of the UK.
Role Purpose
To maximise the region’s profitable sales growth by targeting product and solution sales to key customer segments and sectors increasing the number of new and live trading accounts, driving full basket opportunities through framework sub-contractors and through the effective management of the external sales team to develop a portfolio of customers. Execute against the National Sales Strategy. Defining and executing any additional local and/or regional sales strategies. Work in close collaboration with Regional Directors to support growth and exceptional customer service.
Key Result Areas
- Define and implement a regional sales plan to grow live trading accounts, sales and margin and to optimise market opportunities.
- Lead, motivate and coach the external sales team ensuring high levels of collaboration, engagement, motivation and achievement; providing feedback on performance, techniques and approaches in order to build and develop customer portfolio to maximise sales and gross margin.
- Personally lead on senior customer level relationships.
- Builds and develops great relationships with new and existing Customers and suppliers, understanding their needs and providing proactive advice and solutions so that you can deliver the best experience possible.
- Identify trends and opportunities across the market sectors and takes a leading role in feeding into the sales strategy of the business and articulates what is required by all functions to maximise specialist opportunities at local/regional/national level.
- Keep self and team up to date with changes in legislation, market developments, products and company news.
- Recommend the necessary service level agreements to meet customer expectations in key customer/segments.
- Build close and trusted working relationships with Regional Director and other stakeholders to ensure excellent levels of customer service and satisfaction are delivered, supporting the development of a clear, simple, well-communicated plan to improve customer satisfaction in order to drive loyalty and repeat business through actions of the business.
- Translate commercial opportunity into ranging recommendations that drive profitable sales and EBITDA growth working in close collaboration with Regional Directors and Brand Inventory Manager to build a compelling and consistent proposition for target customer types.
- Understand local market and competitive dynamics, pricing/category as well as mix/delivery mode aspects.
- Ensure through the use of pricing tools, that we deliver sustainable and growing EBITDA through our commercial decisions at branch/regional and national level.
- Work closely with relevant STARK UK central functions to define and execute priority activities across Commercial (Category) and Marketing, ensuring the execution and optimisation of marketing initiatives, local promotions and customer events.
- Work proactively with senior stakeholders on debtor management across the region to optimise opportunity and mitigate risk for the business.
- Work closely with HR Business Partner, Regional Directors and BDDs to develop a robust people and succession plan for the Region overall, ensuring strength and depth of capability.
- Maintain excellent customer & supplier relations, acts as escalation point to address concerns, effectively resolve issues, and ensure a positive customer experience to build loyalty and drive sales.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for own and team safety and well-being, promoting excellent standards as well as safe and sustainable working practices.
- Ensure colleagues are aware and alert to the growing emphasis that customers are placing on supplier and product sustainability performance.
- Drive regional performance, activities and behaviours that improve sustainability credentials/results and further the sustainability agenda.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications And Experience Required
- Management for External Sales teams selling Building Materials is essential.
- Motivated, driven self-starter who can drive change at pace with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Demonstrable success in leading remote sales teams within specialist distribution, merchanting or related sectors with a track record of delivering sales, mix and margin results and exceeding KPIs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively around both national and local strategy requirements to deliver profitable sales growth.
- Ability to identify new revenue streams and customer opportunities personally and through others.
- Experience of giving clear direction as well as coaching, developing and managing remote teams to deliver results, managing performance where required.
- Strong commercial acumen, analytical skills and thorough understanding of the sector and how to meet needs of core customer base.
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Experience and ability to develop, implement and monitor progress against regional sales plans.
- Excellent stakeholder management and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Ability to engage and promote the use of CRM and digital tools to create and secure sales pipeline and customer opportunities and also gather market intel to inform decisions.
