About the Role: We are seeking a seasoned Rocket UniData / UniVerse Architect to lead the knowledge transition and system understanding of a legacy core platform maintained by a single developer for over 20 years. This is an onsite leadership role focused on deep-diving into the existing UniData ecosystem and working closely with our offshore team to build a long-term support and modernization strategy. The ability to understand and bridge these two environments is key to enabling future integration and modernization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the legacy developer to extract deep system knowledge, architectural patterns, and business logic.
- Reverse engineer and document the Rocket UniData/ UniVerse platform to enable effective knowledge transfer.
- Define and implement a transition plan to offshore support and modernization teams.
- Lead architectural discovery and highlight integration opportunities with Azure-hosted .NET systems.
- Guide the client’s leadership on modernization strategies, including interoperability planning and eventual re-architecture.
- Act as the go-to technical leader onsite for all Rocket UniData matters.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 10+ years of experience with Rocket UniData/ UniVerse, including Pick Basic/ UniBasic, TCL, Procs, and Paragraphs.
- Strong knowledge of MultiValue data modeling, legacy file structures, and runtime environments.
- Proven success in reverse engineering, system stabilization, and transitioning from legacy developer ownership.
- Understanding of modern enterprise architectures, with awareness of Azure cloud platforms and .NET-based systems (C#, APIs, services).
- Experience working in hybrid environments, coordinating between onsite legacy platforms and cloud-native services.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, documentation, and technical leadership skills.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience with Rocket tools (e.g., Web DE, SB/XA), or modernization frameworks and connectors.
- Familiarity with data integration strategies (e.g., via ODBC, flat file exchange, REST APIs).
- Exposure to Azure DevOps, microservices, or legacy modernization efforts.
