£42,000 (£70,000 FTE) Spacemade HQ, Barbican, London (EC1) Permanent, 27 hours/week (flexible across the week)

If you dream in cash flow forecasts and Excel formulas, and love a smooth month-end as much as a smart automation, keep reading – because this might just be the perfect 3-day-a-week gig.

We’re looking for a highly experienced Financial Controller to lead and evolve the finance function at Spacemade, overseeing a brilliant team and partnering closely with our COO. You’ll take full ownership of financial controls, reporting, and strategy, helping drive profitability, scalability and clarity across the business — all while balancing structure with agility.

This is a part-time position (3 days/week), ideal for a confident, qualified finance leader who knows their way around scale-ups and wants to bring the full weight of their expertise into a high-impact role, minus the full-time hours.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Leading Spacemade’s finance function day-to-day, working closely with the COO
  • Managing and mentoring a team of three (Finance Manager, Management Accountant, Accounts Assistant)
  • Overseeing all accounting operations and the monthly close process
  • Ensuring accurate, timely budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
  • Presenting financial reporting and insight to the wider business and landlord partners
  • Streamlining and improving systems, processes and controls — always with scalability in mind
  • Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders (esp. Revenue, Marketing, People) and external partners (e.g. landlords, auditors)
  • Managing compliance, tax, and audit requirements
  • Supporting the acquisition team with financial modelling for future coworking sites
  • Driving improvements through automation, systems thinking and process refinement
  • Growing the finance function as the business scales
Who You Are
  • A fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with solid technical expertise and commercial acumen
  • 5+ years in senior finance roles, including team leadership and ownership of financial reporting
  • You’ve worked in a high-growth or fast-moving environment and understand the balance between structure and flexibility
  • Experienced in closing month-end, budgeting and cashflow forecasting – ideally in Xero (or similar platforms)
  • You’ve led audits or been an auditor yourself, and know what good controls look like
  • Strong with Excel/Sheets, with the modelling and analysis skills to support commercial decision-making
  • A clear communicator, able to influence across the business and simplify the complex
  • Able to hit the ground running and not afraid to roll up your sleeves
You’ll Thrive in This Role If You...
  • Love building things: teams, systems, processes – you’re always looking to improve and future-proof
  • Know when to be precise and when to be pragmatic – you’re happy in the grey but know how to get to black and white
  • Want to work in a purpose-led business, and make a measurable difference to growth and profitability
  • Enjoy having autonomy and ownership, but also being deeply connected to a brilliant team
  • Want senior leadership responsibility without full-time hours
Why work for us?
  • A supportive, friendly, hard-working team.
  • Quarterly team socials & get-togethers.
  • Bring your pooch to work - we are a dog-friendly office.
  • Take a half-day on your birthday.
  • A mental health personal day.
  • One paid charity day per year.
  • Competitive salary and bonus scheme.
  • 25 Days holiday per year (excluding Bank Holidays).
  • £50 per month wellbeing allowance.
  • Cycle to work salary sacrifice scheme £2000
