We are looking for a highly skilled and hands-on Lead Java Engineer to lead a focused engineering initiative centered on payment gateway integration. This role combines technical leadership with active coding responsibilities, working within a semi-autonomous structure to ensure fast, efficient delivery. You will be expected to guide implementation best practices, support junior engineers when needed, and take ownership of solution design and code quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical design and development of integrations with multiple payment gateways (preference for Worldpay).
- Own and implement encryption/decryption logic using industry-standard security protocols.
- Translate and transform data formats for reliable communication with payment services.
- Interpret, navigate, and apply complex API documentation with minimal support.
- Troubleshoot systems at the network level to ensure robust and secure integrations.
- Contribute directly to coding, code reviews, and architectural decisions.
- Operate confidently in a cloud-hosted environment (primarily Azure).
- Support light administrative tasks related to project ramp-up, where needed.
Must-Have Skills:
- Expert-level proficiency in Java.
- Proven experience integrating with payment gateways.
- Strong understanding of encryption/decryption techniques and secure coding standards.
- Experience resolving low-level systems and networking challenges.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
- Comfortable translating product needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Cloud experience in Azure and AWS.

- Experience using observability tools like Grafana or OpenTelemetry.
- Familiarity with agile delivery in lean, distributed team environments.

Location: Hybrid. Frequency: 2-3 times a week at the office.
