A well-established not-for-profit sailing organisation is seeking an experienced Boat Lifting Manager to oversee boatyard and lifting operations. This organisation supports serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces and provides access to a 200-berth marina, extensive boat-park facilities, and a busy social and sailing programme. With approximately 500 boat lifts and launches annually, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service. This opportunity has arisen due to the planned retirement of the current Boat Lifting Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Boat Lifting Manager will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all lifting and storage activities on-site.
  • Ensuring all boat lifting and marina-related operations comply with safety legislation and internal procedures.
  • Conducting lift and launch operations using:
  • A 14T trailer-hoist
  • Roodberg slipway trailer
  • Tractors
  • MOD’s 50T Wise travel lift
  • Overseeing the secure and organised storage of vessels in the boat park.
  • Managing bookings, scheduling, and communication with members for all marina-related services.
  • Ensuring timely completion of routine inspections, maintenance, and testing of all lifting and yard equipment.
  • Overseeing repairs and upgrades to yard infrastructure including machinery, pontoons, piles, and safety systems.
  • Managing hazardous materials in compliance with regulations and ensuring a clean, organised site.
  • Leading and developing a small team (currently a supervisor and two operatives), fostering a culture of safety and high performance.
  • Carrying out basic maintenance and groundskeeping work as required.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance services and grow income.
  • Candidate Profile

    • The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing and developing teams in a marina, boatyard, or similar setting.
    • Be highly experienced in slipway lift/launch operations involving yachts up to 40’/12m.
    • Be confident working with heavy plant and lifting equipment, with strong knowledge of relevant health and safety procedures.
    • Possess excellent administrative and IT skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel).
    • Be customer-focused, personable, and committed to delivering excellent service.
