Energy Aspects has an exciting opportunity for an experienced oil/liquids analyst to join our growing Long-term and Transition team, based in London. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced refining or refined products analyst to play a central role in our Long-term and Transition team, focused on leading our analysis of liquids demand in the medium and long-term out to 2050 outlook, covering fuels and products, as well as assisting in broader market analysis as required.

This position will be responsible for leading our fundamental long-term analysis of oil/liquids/products markets, as well as the implications for Upstream oil and gas supply and contributing to modelling capabilities for relevant consumption sectors (e.g. transport). Responsibilities will include developing and maintaining the models that underpin our Long-term and Transition Service, using data from multiple sources of varying quality, alongside assisting in the design, creation, testing and refining of econometric models that forecast supply and demand in global energy markets under different conditions.

Knowledge and interest in key energy transition themes, e.g. energy consumption, petrochemical demand and biofuels mandates, and the implications for liquids products and fuels is essential. You will be responsible for both numerical and written outputs to our clients, including leading individual research notes from day one and contributing to our Energy Outlook, communicating complex information effectively to an audience with varying levels of technical expertise, alongside responding to client queries.

This will entail building collaborative relationships with members of both the Long-term and Transition team, to ensure alignment with colleagues covering gas/power and energy consumption sectors (e.g. Transport), as well as with others across the wider business to ensure our Long-term analysis is aligned with markets teams. There may also be opportunities to present at conferences and interact with the media.

The role demands adaptability and a commitment to excellence as part of a collaborative team. We encourage all our team members to cultivate their professional standing within the industry, backed by some of the industry's most esteemed commentators. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and possess the organisational skills necessary for planning and prioritising tasks to achieve outstanding results.

In exchange, we offer excellent remuneration, a high-performance culture, with challenging and exciting work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Developing models of long-term crude, liquids and products demand, with due consideration of technology and policy related energy transition themes.
  • Delivering of high-quality written research products, including notes and reports which provide insightful and actionable analysis for our clients.
  • Collaborating with power and gas analysts in developing consistent cross-commodity global market views on the energy transition covering both medium- and long-term trends.
  • Engaging with short-term focused refining and products teams, including our Upstream team, on relevant issues to ensure alignment across our research products.
  • Producing presentation material for clients.
  • Responding to client queries specifically on fuels/products and crude demand, including participating in client presentations and workshops, as well as supporting queries related to the wider Long-term and Transition team's coverage.
  • Establishing a comprehensive network of oil/fuels industry contacts and experts.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • In-depth understanding of key economic concepts.
  • Macro understanding of global crude and products markets, including regional demand dynamics.
  • Fundamental modelling experience (building and maintaining complex models, working with statistical tools and regression modelling).
  • Strong analytical and data-handling skills, including being able to select and use the most appropriate software for a task.
  • Good technical written skills, preferably including writing reports for a non-technical audience.
  • The ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with others, including colleagues in different time zones, to deliver timely analysis will be critical.
  • Strong presentation skills to effectively communicate analysis to clients.
  • Attention to detail is a prerequisite for this role in both handling data and written English.
