The Northern General Eye Centre has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and reliable individual to join their growing service. This position is pivotal in providing telephonic and administrative support to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals cataract service.

The successful candidate will be at the forefront of patient contact, using excellent communication and telephone skills to book appointments and deal with general enquiries for the service as well as providing data entry and general administrative support to maintain a quality experience for service users.

  • Provide a comprehensive reception service for the Cataract Centre (a subsidiary of the Directorate of Ophthalmology), being responsible for documenting patients’ arrivals and satisfactorily dealing with any queries raised by members of the public.
  • Deal with telephone and face-to-face enquiries and appointment bookings in a professional manner in accordance with local and national procedures.
  • Undertake administration functions for the department, such as data input, answering telephone calls, sending & receiving emails, filing & scanning documents, etc.
  • Welcome and check in patients for outpatient appointments and surgery.
  • Process referrals into the cataract service.
  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure full utilisation of all available outpatient and surgical appointments.
  • Utilise multiple software packages to check the patients care pathway, including Medisight.
  • Carry out other administrative tasks commensurate with the grade.
