PURPOSE: To serve as a vital member of the instructional team, providing services to students in the English Language Learners (ELL) program through ESL, Bilingual, or other support programs for non-English-speaking families.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with students or small groups under a certified teacher's supervision to reinforce learning.
- Record student achievements and assessment data.
- Assist in planning lessons based on studentsβ language levels.
- Support students in a classroom or across multiple classrooms as needed.
- Assist with classroom technology and materials.
- Supervise students during non-class activities like drills, trips, and play periods.
- Check notebooks, supervise testing, and support make-up work.
- Provide guidance to substitute teachers.
- Support large group instruction, reading, and storytelling.
- Apply strategies to support ELL students effectively.
- Report student issues to teachers.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Participate in professional development.
- Assist with compliance documentation for ELL students.
- Guide independent and remedial work.
- Distribute and collect instructional materials.
- Help maintain an organized classroom environment.
- Support English proficiency development with patience and cultural sensitivity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work effectively with children.
- Follow oral and written instructions well.
- Good judgment, patience, tact, and courtesy.
- Physically capable of supporting young students.
- Proficiency in English; Spanish or other languages preferred.
- Respect for student confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Meet NCLB compliance: either an Associate's Degree or 60 college credits, or pass the Parapro Assessment.
- Experience with children preferred.
- Willing to develop skills to support English learners.
Required Language Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish or Portuguese)
Working Conditions:
- Part-time, 19 hours/week
- $20/hour
