Probate Manager – St Albans

Newstaff Employment is hiring an experienced Probate Manager in St Albans to join a highly regarded professional services firm specialising in estate administration. This is an excellent opportunity to lead complex probate matters within a collaborative team, working with high-net-worth clients and a broad range of estates, both taxable and non-taxable.

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Salary: £55,000 to £70,000 per annum + excellent benefits package
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (flexi-time available)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a diverse caseload of probate and estate administrations from start to finish
• Liaise confidently with Partners/Directors and clients via phone, email, and face-to-face meetings
• Draft correspondence to request information for valuing assets and liabilities at date of death
• Keep executors regularly updated on case progress and timelines
• Prepare accurate Inheritance Tax forms and calculate allowances (NRB, TNRB, etc.)
• Handle applications for Grants of Probate and liaise with HMRC, HMCTS, and third parties
• Advise executors on asset collection, liability payments, and estate distribution
• Work with internal teams on setting up designated client accounts
• Maintain and prepare full estate accounts
• Prepare estate tax returns, R185 beneficiary statements, and 60-day CGT returns (where applicable)

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Strong working knowledge of probate and estate administration procedures
• Proven experience preparing Inheritance Tax forms, including knowledge of tax allowances and exemptions
• Excellent communication skills and confidence dealing with clients and senior stakeholders
• Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and CCH Practice Management System
• High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to manage multiple estates simultaneously

Qualifications:

• CTA and/or STEP qualified (or a strong desire to work toward STEP qualification)
