The Emergency Services Network (ESN) is a huge strategic priority for BT and our commitment to do the best for our customer and our country. ESN will be one of the most advanced Emergency Services Networks in the world, and BT is proud to be the official supplier providing mission critical and trusted communications for Britain’s Emergency Services. The ESN will replace the existing Airwave network and build upon EE’s existing 4G network to provide essential new voice, data services, and critical communications services to 300,000 members of frontline emergency service users.

You will be part of a team responsible for ensuring that our customers have mobile network coverage, capacity and services where they need it, without incurring unnecessary costs. You will help achieve this by monitoring and understanding our mobile radio access network, programmes of work, strategic requirements, designs, and operational requirements, then planning network rollout and modification for optimal cost/benefit/customer experience.

The successful candidate will be cleared to BPSS (or equivalent) as a minimum. You may even be required to undergo National Security Vetting (e.g. CTC, SC or NPPV).

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as a Radio technical expert, working with other teams across the business and with other companies and SWCs, and providing technical support and guidance to other team members.
  • Develop and continually improve processes and methodologies used within the job role.
  • Assist in development of tools used within the team, where necessary to improve accuracy and productivity.
  • Conduct complex analysis and act on the results within the remit of the team.
  • Clearly present the results of analysis to support senior management in strategic decision making.
  • Technical review and oversight of work done by managed service providers, instructing and prioritising work within an agreed delivery framework.
  • Represent BT in discussions and forums with external companies and organisations in relation to network sharing (via MBNL) and the emergency services network.

What We Would Like To See On Your CV

  • Technical knowledge, understanding and experience of the mobile radio access network.
  • Experience of mobile RAN planning, backed up by knowledge of all areas covered by the team (coverage, capacity, topology, transmission and transport).
  • Knowledge of coverage/capacity interaction, mobile RAN site design, RF propagation, transmission/transport network planning.
  • Experience in radio planning and optimisation for different mobile technologies, such as 2G/3G/4G/5G.
  • Experience in network planning, capacity planning and network performance, especially in 5G.
  • Ability to conduct complex analysis and present issues, insights and recommendations to wide audiences.
  • Exposure to Asset, Atoll, Geo Optimise, XCAP, TEMS INVESTIGATION, MapInfo, QGIS, Nemesis, Tableau, CNE, MBNL SiteTracker, ESRI ARC GIS and ICNIRP Guidelines would be highly beneficial.

This role offers a 3 together, 2 wherever working model. This means you are required to be at your contractual location 3 days a week with 2 flexible days per week.
