What You Will Do:

Seeking a driven and experienced individual for a Design Technologist Team Lead. This unique position requires a candidate who is both a skilled mentor and an adept Design Technician, capable of guiding the team while directly contributing to the design and estimation of overhead and underground distribution systems for various applications. Responsibilities include:

• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to a team of Design Technologists and Engineering Technicians, collaborating closely to ensure project deliverables are completed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
• Harmonize design practices across GBE by developing and promoting standardized processes, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and adherence to engineering best practices.
• Direct involvement in the design and estimation processes, working hands-on with the QUADRA estimating tools, AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, and Or SPIDACalc Engineering Software.
• Coordinate and oversee the preparation and issuing of work orders, detailed estimates, and material lists, while also contributing to these tasks.
• Maintain and update distribution standards and specifications, both by leading the effort and by personally engaging in the work.
• Manage and participate in the preparation and evaluation of tenders to ensure competitive and comprehensive submissions.
• Perform and oversee advanced engineering analysis of electrical distribution systems, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance.
• Provide coverage and support for roles such as Design Technologist, Engineering Technician and Underground Inspector during periods of absence or peak activity, in addition to overseeing these responsibilities.
• Ensure timely and accurate updates to internal databases and project trackers.
• Lead by example in maintaining meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in all documentation, preparation, and submission of work.
• Facilitate coordination with third-party consultants and assisting with complex service layout requests, ensuring project timelines are met.
• Promote a positive workplace culture through active leadership and participation, fostering collaboration, supporting customers, and contributing to a respectful and inclusive environment.

What You Will Bring:

• Post-Secondary diploma from an Engineering Technology or an Engineering program.
• Eligible to obtain C. Tech. or C.E.T. designation within 6 months of employment date.
• Minimum five years’ experience in electrical distribution design.
• Sound knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, single phase and three phase service connections, street light design and distribution standards.
• Successful applicant will have and maintain a valid Class 'G' driver’s license with own transportation.
• Proficient with the latest AutoCAD, SPIDACalc or PLSCadd, and Microsoft Office Products including Excel and Word.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to interact with all levels of staff and management.
• Passion in mentoring others.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgements and adapt to change.
• Applicants must have proven time management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects within tight timelines.
