Come and join JLR as a Lead Battery Engineer – Advanced Batteries! We’re looking for an accomplished Lead Battery Engineer to take a leading role in driving forward our work within Advanced Batteries. In this pivotal role, you'll coordinate the design and development of next-generation HV battery systems and components—delivering technical excellence across key programmes while meeting quality, cost, and timing targets.

You’ll take ownership of one or more technical areas within battery systems, leading cross-functional teams and driving engineering design activities from concept to prototypes. This is a role for someone who thrives on collaboration, brings clarity to complexity, and can steer delivery with confidence and precision. If you’re passionate about innovation, have a systems mindset, and enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, this is your chance to make a real impact in a fast-moving and future-focused environment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Lead the technical delivery of the HV battery pack/system, ensuring alignment with programme objectives across quality, cost, and timing.
  • Conduct functional and non-functional analysis to define system behaviour and performance based on customer requirements.
  • Evaluate and compare system design concepts, maintaining technical integrity between systems and components.
  • Develop and maintain system-level functional and physical architectures in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Prepare detailed system requirement specifications and functional designs that meet defined customer needs.
  • Support early-stage concept development, translating customer requirements into robust technical proposals.
  • Collaborate with component and attribute teams to resolve technical issues and deliver optimised design solutions.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

We’re looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including:

  • Strong technical background with proven expertise in HV battery system development and industrialisation, ideally within the automotive sector and aligned with relevant legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in battery system definition, architecture development, requirements specification, performance modelling, systems integration, and validation.
  • In-depth knowledge of cell and battery performance characteristics, particularly for high-power, premium applications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strong capability to develop and evaluate concepts from first principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage effectively across teams.
  • Relevant engineering degree supported by substantial industry experience.

BENEFITS

This role is rewarding in more ways than one. On top of our core offering, you’ll do extraordinary work with amazing people. In addition, you can expect a wide range of benefits:

  • Discounted car purchase (open to family members, too).
  • A 52-week maternity leave policy and a 4-week paternity leave policy. Other parental leave policies are available.
  • A competitive pension.
  • A JLR company performance-related bonus.
  • An employee learning scheme providing funding for education, training, and other activities which support the development of personal skills and promote lifelong learning.
  • Access to open, employee-led support and social networks.
  • Comprehensive Life Assurance and Income Protection policies.

At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees more choice and flexibility around how, when, and where they work. Some roles require more on-site work, but details of this can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview stage.
