About The Role

We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Farnborough. This is a static, site-based role requiring full-time presence, so candidates must be within a reasonable commuting distance. As the Authorised Person – Pressure Systems, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, meeting both statutory and contractual SLAs. You will oversee the implementation of AWSL Rules and Policies, including permit control and safety compliance.

While AP11 (or equivalent) is preferred, we are open to candidates without it if they have significant experience and the necessary qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Authorised Person – Pressure Systems for the contract, ensuring compliance with AWSL policies and safe working practices.
  • Deliver planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and minor works on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Provide technical support, advice, and guidance to customers and colleagues.
  • Ensure a high standard of service delivery and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on performance to the Area Manager.
  • Ensure safe execution of AWSL works, including those undertaken by service partners.
  • Manage Permit to Work systems, ensuring compliance and contractor supervision.
  • Keep the Maximo system updated via the company-issued tablet, ensuring accurate timekeeping and reporting.
  • Take ownership of the site, ensuring exceptional service delivery.
  • Participate in the on-call rota for out-of-hours call-outs.
  • Ensure strong working knowledge and application of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Assess High Risk vs Low Risk Mechanical Systems and produce risk assessments accordingly.
  • Prepare Safety Programmes, Permits to Work, and Statements of Isolations in compliance with safety regulations.

About You

Minimum Qualifications, Certifications and Training required

  • Legionella (L8) trained and competent
  • AP11 or equivalent Authorised Person Mechanical System qualification
  • UK Driving Licence

Desirable Qualifications

  • City & Guilds BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Apprentice trained in an M&E discipline
  • Commercial Gas Qualifications
  • Commercial F-Gas Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience for this role

  • 1 years’ experience in customer facing outsourcing environment.
  • Strong, demonstrable competencies of dealing with building services plant.
  • Knowledge and experience operating and adjusting Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Knowledge and experience of working on HVAC systems
  • 2 years previous experience within similar environment and in particular across area multi sites and multi discipline service delivery.
  • Background in mobile engineering/property maintenance
  • Experience of working with asset/work management systems such as MAXIMO / CAFM systems on smartphones.
  • Ability to manage priorities in line with business needs.

A key role of the AP is to oversee and certify the isolation of Mechanical Systems for which they have been authorised by the AE or equivalent, together with also being available to oversee and authorise any work on Mechanical Systems that have been certified as isolated by another AP - in accordance with relevant Safety Rules and Procedures.
