Main Purpose:

To work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy within the Brainkind Neurobehavioural model to people with acquired brain injury (ABI), and to lead on SaLT provision within the service. To liaise with professionals, families, and the individuals supported.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Apply the neurobehavioural approach to brain injury, demonstrating knowledge of current research and best practices.
  • Manage and prioritize a caseload of individuals with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Use evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to formulate appropriate goals, care plans, and therapy programs.
  • Overcome communication barriers to actively engage individuals in assessments and planning, respecting legal frameworks where necessary.
  • Seek consent and share information with stakeholders respecting confidentiality.
  • Provide information about communication abilities and support needs.
  • Complete swallowing assessments, providing recommendations and training for staff.
  • Ensure safety and risk management, adhering to safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Maintain equipment and inventory, and ensure registration with HCPC.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Work flexibly, promote quality, develop relationships, and lead service planning and evaluation.
  • Research and Development: Undertake research, audits, and participate in service improvements.
  • Facilitation of Learning: Support training and development of staff, service users, and families.
  • Personal Development: Maintain professional competence, participate in training, supervision, and continuous learning.

About You:

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Registered with HCPC.
  • Achieved Dysphagia Competencies.
  • Experience in hospital or residential settings.
  • Knowledge of SaLT models and interventions in ABI.
  • Minimum 4 years qualified experience with complex cases.
  • Experience working with adults with neurological conditions or equivalent clinical experience.
