We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and skilled Basketball Coach to join our Sports Academy Team as a Basketball Lead and Enrichment Officer. This is a vital role focused on developing and leading our basketball programme while enhancing the overall enrichment experience for our students. This is a dynamic and fulfilling position that combines coaching, mentoring, inclusion, community engagement, and strategic planning. Key responsibilities:

  • Design and lead a structured, high-performance basketball programme aligned with England Basketball best practice.
  • Deliver at least 12 hours of high-quality coaching per week: group sessions, 1:1s, S&C, tactical and psychological preparation.
  • Coordinate and manage CBL and AoC league participation, fixtures, and player development.
  • Mentor and support student-athletes academically, emotionally, and professionally.
  • Plan and run inclusive enrichment activities such as wheelchair basketball and women's sports festivals.
  • Develop pathways into club basketball and careers in sport (e.g. coaching, officiating).
  • Build partnerships with schools, clubs, and local organisations.
  • Deliver sports camps during half-terms and summer (TOIL provided).
  • Support enrichment delivery across a range of sports (e.g., volleyball, badminton, pickleball).
  • Contribute to curriculum-linked sport and fitness activities.
  • Maintain health & safety, safeguarding and performance records, including injury tracking and athlete data.
  • Support the supervision and safe use of NewVIcs multi-gym and facilities.

Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Essential:
  • Level 2 Basketball Coaching Qualification (or higher)
  • Proven experience delivering competitive youth basketball programmes (e.g., CBL, AoC)
  • Experience supporting diverse student populations
  • Excellent communication, organisation and mentoring skills
  • Ability to work proactively, collaboratively and flexibly
  • Strong safeguarding and health & safety awareness
  • Competence in digital monitoring tools (e.g., Excel or team tracking platforms)
  • Desirable:
    • Degree in Sport or related field
    • Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition or Sports Psychology certification
    • Experience working in FE or education settings
    • Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults
