We have a unique opportunity for a subject matter expert to join us as an Associate Director of Commercial Intelligence. You will contribute and lead Commercial and Project Services programmes related to commissions, with expertise in cost and commercial engineering. The role will predominantly be working within the Water industry but may cover wider utilities and infrastructure.
Commercial Engineering is a unique offering from Aqua Consultants, it straddles our key services lines, drawing on the expertise of various disciplines. It challenges the Need, Scope, Cost and Risk of projects and/or programmes with the aim of bridging the client's affordability gaps and maximising value. Whilst maximum benefit is achieved in the early stages of a project, we can apply commercial engineering throughout a project lifecycle including during construction.
The role requires working with the service line's senior management team and other service lines such as Engineering and Asset Management, this role is to ensure that the service line contributes to Aqua's overall business plan that the cost capability within the business continues to develop its client solutions and delivers great projects relating to cost intelligence, estimating and commercial advice.
The role will be responsible for working with our existing client frameworks to identify opportunities, develop proposals and bring combined skill and expertise to add value for those clients. The role will work with the relevant people in the business to share unique value propositions, make us different to our competition and support those pitches and proposals with our key clients.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing resource supporting cost commissions delivering great results for customer and the business
- Working with the service line leadership team to manage workload and staff utilisation
- Quality management, compliance with standards, ethics, corporate governance and policies/procedures
- Developing headcount requirements and supporting recruitment, retention and employee development
- Collaboration with finance and commercial teams to ensure best in class client outcomes and commercial performance
- Supporting client engagement and relationships
- Delivery of specific client commissions and projects
- Challenging the need and solution (typically at concept and outline design stage)
- Asset standard and specification review and challenge with a commercial understanding
- Support CaPs SME's to develop new and enhance existing capabilities
- Working with the client and partnership team to develop go-to-market plans and contribute to success bids and proposals
Skills and experience:
- Operational leadership and management
- Performance management of people and commissions
- Understanding and promoting the skills within your team both internally and externally
- Progressing your team's development, understanding their needs and supporting their progression plans
- Client relationship management
- Contribute to the development of the products in the cost area of the business
- Contribute to the resource planning in order to meet client needs

- Water Industry and/or wider utilities experience preferred
- Experience in a consulting and project management capability will be beneficial
- An engineering background (Civil / Mech / Elec / Process etc)
- Degree level educated with ~10 years' experience of which 2-3 years should have been in a senior business management capacity
