The De Beers Group Business Development Team is responsible for creating value for the De Beers Group and plays a central role in projects across the business, from mining to retail and everything that connects the value chain. Their key deliverables include:
- Delivering on the inorganic component of an ambitious plan for growth.
- Managing transactions (e.g., acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, corporate venture capital) from origination to execution.
- Identifying a pipeline of potential investment or partnership opportunities along the diamond value chain.
The Senior Business Development Analyst will support the VP of Business Development in driving growth and expansion opportunities for De Beers. Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing market trends, identifying potential business opportunities, assessing the feasibility and viability of new initiatives through financial analysis, and developing business cases and proposals aligned with the company's strategic objectives and long-term growth targets.
- Project management of M&A transactions - scheduling meetings, tracking deliverables, engaging with external advisors.
- Engaging with investment target companies, developing tactics, and negotiating transaction terms.
- Sitting as Board observer on non-group companies.
- Building a broad network and collaborating with teams across Strategy, Business Units, Finance, Innovation to develop commercial models and investment cases.
- Evaluating proposals for acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, and strategic alliances, including engagement with external advisors.
- Evaluating financial and other information from third-party sources.
- Building sophisticated financial models.
- Writing investment proposals for governance bodies.
- Preparing presentation materials and leading discussions at De Beers ExCo level.
- Collaborating with legal, tax, finance, treasury, and corporate secretarial teams to ensure project delivery.
- Advocating for improved working methods and digital tools.
- Coaching other Analysts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business, or technical field (e.g., Pr.Eng, ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CFA).
- Proven experience in financial, economic, or technical data sourcing, manipulation, and analysis.
- Experience in investment decision-making/analysis functions or as a third-party advisor.
- Understanding major economic performance indicators (sales, EBITDA, cash flows, etc.).
- Ability to transform data into actionable insights.
- Experience with project processes and roadmaps.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, networking, and presentation skills.
- Understanding of financial value over time.
- Advanced Excel modeling and Microsoft Office skills.
- Analytical thinking and understanding regulatory implications.
- Commercial mindset to identify value drivers.
