The role of Future Programmes Principal Supportability Engineer is a mid-level management role in the Supportability Engineering discipline. This role manages an area of activity within this discipline and is accountable for performance and results achieved through multiple managers, senior grade professional associates and/or senior technical specialists. The Principal Supportability Engineer should have a broad understanding of a range of engineering systems or disciplines and be able to communicate effectively with SMEs.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Provide technical input and oversight to individual projects, in conjunction with the Project Manager, and will be responsible for reviewing, modelling, analysing and innovating all future supportability challenges.
  • Be responsible to the Senior Project Manager who has overall accountability for the delivery of the Project to the Head of Future Programmes.
  • Lead on Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality within the project and all operations business performance metrics (Safety, cost, schedule, quality).
  • Work with the Future Programme Team to define and detail the work required to deliver each activity, providing technical oversight to optimise solutions and remove conflicts.
  • Apply technical expertise and ensure quality standards are achieved across the project and ensure that Learning from Experience is shared across the Future Programmes teams.
  • Establish, lead, and maintain governance arrangements for the delivery of the project, defining clear roles and responsibilities and accountabilities that align with the company Business Management System.

This role is 37 hours a week Monday to Friday with hybrid working arrangements in place - 2 days onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Principal Supportability Engineer:

  • Broad breadth of knowledge with a good awareness of engineering principles including nuclear engineering; mechanical and electrical engineering systems and equipment; and support functions such as scaffolding and slinging.
  • Mechanical and/or Electrical Marine Engineering systems and equipment.
  • T, A and V Class systems.
  • Maintenance, diagnosis, repair and replacement of submarine and surface ship systems and equipment.

Qualifications for the Principal Supportability Engineer:

  • Chartered / Incorporated member of a recognised Engineering Council Institution, or ability to gain within two years.
  • Qualified to minimum of Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Leadership and Management Certification.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
