Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for a full-time, experienced Deputy Head of Lighting on the London production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, this new play by Jack Thorne received its world premiere in London's West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016. The critically acclaimed production is the most awarded West End play in the history of the Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking nine awards including Best New Play and Best Director in 2017.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to support and deputise for the Head of Lighting. Candidates should be able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure as well as having strong organisational and time management qualities to ensure that the production runs efficiently and smoothly and the Lighting design is maintained. An exceptional candidate should have 1 year experience in a deputy position on a large scale production.

Responsibilities include:

  • Running rig checks and making sure lighting is set to the high show standards
  • Operating shows
  • Working as part of an efficient and successful department
  • Liaising with all other departments on the production and associated personnel

Ideal candidates would have good knowledge of ETC Eos Consoles, knowledge of Disguise video control, good moving light maintenance skills, good people management skills, fault finding/trouble shooting skills and should be able to work at height. Experience working on a large-scale production is essential.

Please Note: All applicants must be able to commit to the full contract.

Job Location: West End London

Contract Type: A year contract in the first instance, then the contract will be rolling.

Salary: Weekly rate as per SOLT/BECTU agreement.

Weekly Hours: 6 day working weeks (Tuesday to Sunday); 8 shows per week plus maintenance and understudy calls.
