Structural Soils, part of the RSK Group, are looking for an experienced and ambitious Team Leader to help grow the Geotechnical site testing team in Scotland, UK.
The Role:
The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time office/yard based. Responsibilities include planning logistics, organising equipment, maintaining calibration and training records, checking results, and liaising with both team members and clients. Some work will be on-site, with travel required to various locations around Scotland and the North of England. Early starts and/or overnight stays may be necessary. A full UK driving licence is essential, and a B+E towing licence is advantageous.

We are particularly proud of our work in the nuclear sector, having undertaken significant site investigations at Hinckley Point and Wylfa on Anglesey. These high-profile contracts have allowed Structural Soils to enhance our technical, quality, and reporting standards, making the company an exciting opportunity for those looking to develop a career in the geological field.
Duties will include:
- Engaging with clients on different sites on a day-to-day basis.
- Managing team workload and planning site visits to be economical and commercially viable.
- Maintaining UKAS accreditation, calibrations, and training.
- Working closely with other departments to deliver projects to tight deadlines.
- Supervising the training of geotechnical site technicians in site testing, including but not limited to:
- Plate Load testing
- Insitu CBR testing
- Nuclear density gauge testing
- Soakaway/percolation testing
The role will require travel mainly within Scotland, with occasional national travel. Staying away may be required on weekdays.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- UK Clean Driving licence (Essential)
- 2 - 3 years experience with some/all of the above listed testing (other candidates may be considered with similar experience)
- CSC
- Time management skills
- Flexibility and teamwork
- Patience, attention to detail, integrity
- Computer literate and ability to use technical equipment
- Confident in reporting any issues with samples or equipment
- Experience and ability to work outside in all seasons
- Confident to work independently on-site
- Willingness to work across the UK as needed
- Flexible regarding out-of-hours and weekend work
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (earth sciences, geography, geology, etc.)
- SSSTS or SMSTS certification
Salary and benefits:
Salary between £29,000 - £32,000 depending on experience + overtime. Contributory Pension Scheme. A flexible benefits programme including the option to buy additional holidays and private health care.
