About Our Team

Within Elsevier's Science, Technology, and Medical Journal (STMJ) publishing division, we are looking for a Team Leader to strengthen the Research Integrity & Publishing Ethics Center of Expertise through leadership and team management, executing best practices, testing and implementing technological solutions for Ethics Pre-publication Screening workflow, and offering support on research integrity matters to STMJ colleagues. STM Journals publishes more than 2,800 peer-reviewed journals. Elsevier is committed to nurturing and upholding research integrity within our journals and within the wider research community.

The Team Leader will be responsible for managing a team of 10 Publishing Ethics Screening Analysts who use Elsevier's technological tools to evaluate manuscripts for potential misconducts related to publishing ethics. The Team Leader will oversee the identification and resolution of these concerns in submitted manuscripts in accordance with Elsevier's Publishing Ethics policies within the agreed delivery timelines.

About The Role

We are seeking a candidate with knowledge of scholarly research and publishing best practices and a deep understanding of research integrity and publishing ethics, as well as experience of leading and coaching teams and working within a matrix environment. The candidate will be skilled at communicating across diverse stakeholder groups, both within Elsevier and outside Elsevier, and in working with other leaders to set priorities and deliver high-quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Managing up to ten team members in a global organization
  • Coaching the team to work with diverse stakeholders across Elsevier – including the Publishing teams, Legal team, Technology teams, and Operations team – to resolve ethics cases
  • Coaching the team to be open to change and user feedback, and to develop a strong customer-focused perspective in resolving cases
  • Recruiting, retaining and developing our talent: develop the team to an expert level
  • Managing manuscript screening and editor identity and behavioral checks by prioritizing and coordinating actions across the team
  • Ensuring the team adheres to deadlines, and that team members understand sensitivities and nuances to effectively screen the manuscript and validate editors - including communications with all parties, and operational actions.
  • Continuously reviewing workflows, processes, and policies and working to revise and improve them where necessary.

Requirements

  • Strong experience / 5+ years in scholarly research, scholarly publishing, and/or research integrity
  • Proven record in delivering results, prioritizing customer and business needs, and collaborating with different teams
  • Excellent ability to communicate findings and recommendations in a clear, effective, and engaging manner for diverse audiences
  • Proven experience managing a team, with a strong focus on coaching and developing talent
  • Tertiary-level degree or higher
  • An assessment or case study could be part of our selection procedure.
