Are you ready to dive into the exciting and innovative world of Engineered Wood? Kadant Carmanah Design is recognized as a global leader of innovation in the design and manufacture of equipment in the Engineered Wood products industry and is the largest supplier of Stranders used in the production of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) and other wood-based composites.

We are seeking a motivated and talented Engineer to join our team as a R&D Machine Vision Engineer. The ideal candidate will assist in the design and implementation of machine vision systems, including the integration of cameras and sensors. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and contribute to the development of AI tools such as machine learning (ML) and deep learning.

Responsibilities
  • Pioneering the design and development of machine vision systems for OSB manufacturing.
  • Support the integration of cameras and sensors into mechanical mountings.
  • Collaborate with team members to write and optimize algorithms for image processing and analysis.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of AI tools, including ML and deep learning.
  • Conduct testing and troubleshooting of prototypes.
  • Document design processes, test results, and system specifications.
  • Travel to customer OSB mills to install, test and troubleshoot prototypes.
  • Prepare drawings, manuals, and instructions on replicating designs to be handed over to production.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of machine vision systems and image processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python and/or C++.
  • Familiarity with PLC systems.
  • Experience with camera and sensor integration.
  • Understanding of AI tools, including ML and deep learning.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
