As an apprentice in civil and structural engineering, you will play a vital role in supporting engineering teams through various stages of design and project delivery, gaining hands-on experience and developing technical skills essential for your career.

Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship skills: You will work within the Transport and Infrastructure Design Team, assisting engineers at all levels by producing technical drawings and design solutions using AutoCAD and Civil 3D software. Your tasks will span the entire project lifecycle, from initial concepts to construction and handover, across diverse sectors. You will learn to create, edit, and analyse 3D models and 2D drawings, developing proficiency in civil engineering drafting techniques and software applications. Close supervision and mentoring will support your growth in industry knowledge, practical skills, and professional development. The apprenticeship typically lasts 36 months, including day-release college training, leading to Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician qualification and eligibility for Engineering Technician registration.

Structural Engineering Technician Apprenticeship skills: You will also work in a building and structures environment, assisting team leaders and senior members on projects ranging from high-rise developments to large warehouses. You will acquire knowledge of structural design principles, construction methods, and project management essentials such as time management, communication, and teamwork. Training will focus on CAD and Revit software, enabling you to contribute to the design, delivery, and maintenance of infrastructure and buildings. You will also learn to identify hazards and assess risks, complying with health and safety regulations.   • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and ideally some experience using AutoCAD, however this is not essential.
