The Freeths PCS team is 50 strong, growing and spread nationally across our offices.

For 15 consecutive years, Freeths’ Trusts, Estate and Tax lawyers have secured a ranking in the UK's leading legal directory, Chambers and Partners High Net Worth Guide. The East Midlands Trusts, Estates and Tax Team is led by Rahul Kotecha and supported by Marie Cooper, both based in our Nottingham office.

The team is now seeking an experienced Managing Associate lawyer with circa 8-15 PQE to join them in the Trusts, Estates and Tax team in Nottingham. The role involves progressing and supervising the administration of all types of estates handled by junior members of the team, including taxable and non-taxable estates, estates settled following family disputes, estates containing relievable assets, and estates with related trusts.

The individual should also have experience drafting estate planning reports and working with business owners/landowners. The team covers a range of matters for high and ultra-high net worth clients, with specialists in all areas of trusts, estates and tax, advising clients with international, agricultural, literary, business and other assets.

Directors and Partners specialise in particular areas, including acting as independent administrators in high net worth contested estates, advising on complex mental capacity issues, administering cross-border estates, and advising agricultural clients. The team is recognised for its ability to work flexibly to find solutions, exemplified by the firm’s Private Wealth Initiative, where members of the Corporate and TET teams collaborate to build succession and tax plans for business owners.

This role offers the opportunity to develop professionally, working on high-quality instructions alongside leaders in their respective fields. There will be a good level of supervisory responsibilities involved, and business development activities will be supported and encouraged.

Your Skills And Qualifications

  • Have directly relevant previous experience and the correct level of post-qualified experience (PQE) for the role.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the industry.
  • A member of STEP or a desire to undertake STEP qualifications.
  • A proven track record of competent financial management, ability to meet client expectations, and sound case management skills.
  • Good IT skills, experience, and confidence with using case management systems, electronic time recording, and general Microsoft packages.
  • A self-starting, friendly individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
