JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality garments through product engineering and improved manufacturing techniques. You will be proactive in identifying potential manufacturing challenges and product failures early in the process, ensuring product excellence and compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Quality
- Ensure products align with the company’s high standards and aesthetics.
- Collaborate with Design and Product Development teams to meet product specifications and achieve optimal quality.
- Monitor quality standards during prototyping and development stages.
- Ensure product compliance with relevant legislation in all markets.
- Review QC reports from factories and conduct inspections as necessary.
- Provide technical assistance on sizing, returns, and other related issues.
- Work with Design and Product teams to ensure that products meet brand standards for fit and function.
- Evaluate new materials and techniques to ensure they meet quality standards.
Product Development
- Assist the Senior Technologist in managing the size specification library.
- Support the Design and Product Development teams to balance styling, aesthetics, performance, quality, and cost.
- Ensure samples align with the BOM.
- Maintain the GT Sample Tracker and coordinate with the Production team to meet critical path dates.
- Develop products from prototype to production, including garment measurements and fitting.
- Create and update detailed measurement charts for various product categories.
- Ensure consistency in measurement specifications, fit, size, and grading across all suppliers.
- Provide clear documentation and communication to suppliers regarding measurement standards.
- Manage the fit process, including scheduling, room bookings, sample preparation, and ensuring garments align with the brand\’s fit standards.
- Lead proto, SMS, and Sealing fits, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the design intent.
- Review size sets and artwork placement for accuracy.
Supplier and Process Management
- Communicate directly with suppliers regarding fit, quality, and feedback to ensure understanding and execution.
- Ensure suppliers have clear guidelines on sampling requirements and minimum construction standards.
- Build strong, mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers to drive improvements in quality.
- Maintain clear, timely communication with suppliers to ensure alignment on critical path dates and seasonal timelines.
- Proactively identify risks to meeting the critical path and take steps to resolve them.
Product Workmanship
- Ensure appropriate manufacturing standards and construction methods are used based on the product\’s intended end use.
- Establish manufacturing standards through prototype approval processes.
- Drive innovation in technical solutions to improve quality, reduce costs, and speed up delivery.
- Document and communicate any construction or sewing methods that need to be shared with suppliers.
Person Specification
- Relevant experience working as a Garment Technologist, ideally with a focus on menswear.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with internal teams and suppliers.
- Experience working directly with factories and agents; supplier experience is preferred.
- Expertise in garment construction, pattern cutting, and grading.
- Proactive, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to document and provide clear, concise technical feedback to factories.
- Strong recall of style names and product history.
- Experience managing and adhering to critical path dates.
