The Fire Safety Compliance Officer will play a critical role within the Fire and Building Safety Team, supporting the delivery of fire safety compliance across Mears Group's housing portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Fire and Building Safety, the post-holder will be responsible for reviewing Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) outputs, ensuring remedial actions are compliant, and coordinating delivery with internal stakeholders and subcontractors. This role ensures technical compliance, regulatory adherence, and operational excellence, while supporting the growth of Mears' fire safety services in the housing sector.

The post-holder will work collaboratively with branches, surveyors, and contractors to maintain high-quality fire safety compliance across Mears' stock, supporting internal and external clients.

Role Criteria
  • FRA Review and Compliance: Review completed Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) to ensure accuracy, compliance with relevant legislation, and alignment with Mears' fire safety standards. Identify any gaps or discrepancies and work with internal stakeholders to address issues promptly.
  • Remedial Action Oversight: Track and monitor remedial actions arising from FRAs, ensuring timely completion and compliance with fire safety regulations. Collaborate with surveyors, subcontractors, and operational teams to prioritise and resolve issues.
  • Quality Assurance: Assess the quality and compliance of FRA outputs delivered by internal surveyors and external subcontractors, ensuring adherence to Mears' standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: Coordinate remedial works and actions with internal stakeholders, including branch teams, operational managers, and subcontractors. Act as the key point of contact for fire safety compliance queries.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of FRA outputs, remedial actions, and compliance status. Produce detailed reports for the Head of Fire and Building Safety, identifying risks, trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Stakeholder Support: Support Mears branches and operational teams by providing expert advice and guidance on fire safety compliance and best practices.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all activities align with current fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, and relevant Building Safety Act requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve fire safety compliance processes, promote best practices, and contribute to the growth and efficiency of the fire safety service.
  • Audits and Inspections: Assist in auditing fire safety compliance, inspecting properties as required, and providing recommendations to improve fire safety measures.
  • Training and Awareness: Support internal teams and subcontractors with fire safety awareness, providing advice and guidance on achieving compliance across the housing stock.
Key Criteria
  • Experience in the above duties.
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent fire safety qualification.
  • Demonstrated expertise in fire safety legislation and risk assessment.
  • Proven experience in reviewing Fire Risk Assessments and tracking remedial actions.
  • Experience liaising with contractors and internal stakeholders to deliver fire safety compliance.
  • Experience in housing or property management environments.
  • Strong understanding of fire safety regulations, including RRFSO 2005 and related standards.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate FRA reports.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Full Valid UK driving license.
  • Good Standard of general education, or equivalent, including English and Maths.
