The Opportunity

As a qualified Nuclear Safety Engineer, you will provide internal regulation on nuclear safety, focusing on Design and Safety Case aspects, including undertaking Independent Nuclear Safety Assessments (INSA) on proposed plant and safety case changes. You will also offer advice on nuclear safety, licensing, and compliance, supporting INA’s broader assurance activities. We are seeking a permanent Assessment Nuclear Safety Engineer with expertise in one or more of Cyber Security (Operational and Information Technology), Electrical Systems, and Control & Instrumentation engineering disciplines. While the role is flexible home/office-based, occasional travel to Nuclear Sites will be required.

What You’ll Be Doing

• The provision of independent assurance (assessment) that plant modifications have been correctly conceived, justified and implemented.
• Contribute towards INA assurance that Plant is operated and maintained in accordance with the Safety Case.
• Represent INA at technical meetings both internally and with the ONR.
• Conduct and reporting of surveillance and other activities in accordance with the Model of Internal Regulation.
• Contribute to reporting of internal regulation activities to all levels in the organisation.
• Developing and implementing oversight arrangements for specific projects.
• The role will require authorisation to and fulfilling of the Nuclear Safety Engineer Role in accordance with the Safety Case Management process. Appropriate mentoring and training will be provided to achieve this qualification.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate for the INA Assessment Nuclear Safety Engineer role will have a degree or equivalent in Engineering or Science, with experience in Cyber Security (Operational and Information Technology), Electrical Systems, or Control & Instrumentation. Practical experience with safety case arrangements for higher category cases, such as author, verifier, or case officer, is desirable. Knowledge of regulatory processes, Nuclear Power Plant theory, systems, and components is beneficial for assessing compliance with safety cases, Nuclear Site Licenses, and relevant legislation. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills, along with a questioning attitude, are essential. To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for the last 5 years.
