Maintenance Technician Plumbing/Mechanical

This plumbing role is based at Kendray Hospital in Barnsley but covers other health centres in the Barnsley area that sits under the trust footprint.

The role is maintaining all aspects of the mechanical systems both internally and externally on the buildings. The work is varied and changes on a day-to-day basis in line with service needs, requirements and prioritisation of works. Estates trust vehicles are utilised for travelling around the footprint of the trust and the successful candidate's skillset may at times need to be used on the Wakefield properties which includes Fieldhead Hospital which has over fifteen in-patient mental health units and Cheswold Hospital which is a medium to low secure unit based in Doncaster.

Main duties of the job:

• To carry out routine mechanical maintenance of Trust properties.
• Be able to be fully conversant with various types of mechanical systems e.g. Hot and cold water systems, Central Heating/underfloor heating, HVAC, Water Hygiene practices to the HTM 04.
• The post holder will be expected to keep up all relevant training both trade specific and mandatory NHS.
• Manage own workload and liaise with departmental managers for access to ward and patient areas.
• Ensure mechanical stock levels are maintained and order stock and parts as required.
• Ensure the quality of work is of a high standard at all times.
• Required to carry out work in accordance with working at heights and permit to work system on various functions in various conditions i.e. confined spaces, boiler houses, plant rooms, stair wells etc.
• Participate in an on-call rota.

Person Specification:

• Physical Attributes: Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post. A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years.
• Qualifications: Recognized Apprenticeship, City & Guilds level 3 or NVQ level 3 Plumbing or City & Guilds level 3 Mechanical/technical Qualification.
• Experience: Substantial relevant healthcare experience, experience of costing, implementing and running small schemes within budget.
• Personal Attributes: Physically fit, ability to cope under pressure, good communicator, smart appearance, flexible in working hours/on call, team player and self-motivated.
• Training: Legionella/Water Hygiene HTM 04-01 and/or Approved code of practice L8, Chlorination of Potable water systems, HTM 03-01 Ventilation, CPR, BMS Systems, Risk Assessments, Health & Safety Training.
