HomeServe are currently recruiting for a dynamic Learning & Development Manager to join our People Team in Walsall, Preston or Nottingham. The ideal candidate will have a passion for organisational learning, with a particular focus on helping busy managers and leaders always improve. You will be digitally savvy, fascinated by behaviour change and able to create and promote our learning resources and experiences to increase engagement and performance. You will be an advocate for learning, not just training, at HomeServe.
We work in a hybrid way, with a requirement to travel into our Walsall office to work with the team. Frequent travel to all our offices will also be required. With that in mind you will be located within a convenient commute to Walsall, Preston or Nottingham.

This role will create, implement and manage learning and development solutions through effective, relative and useful content. Reporting into the Head of Learning & Development, this role has two distinct areas of focus:
- Creation and management of manager and leadership development content – delivered via a series of mechanics from online/self-led to classroom and in-person
- Oversight and management of promotion and take-up of L&D opportunities in HomeServe, supporting the broad L&D strategy and the Head of L&D
The role holder will be expected to be able to deliver the necessary requirements of both aspects of the role. This role is there to support the Company and People strategy through developing, promoting and overseeing suitable professional development opportunities.
With around 250 People Managers in HomeServe, it is essential we are able to provide the necessary development opportunities to enable those Managers to engage, develop and grow their teams. Working closely with the Head of Talent and Leadership Development and the Head of Diversity, Equality and Inclusivity, the role holder will be expected to identify, design, deliver and evaluate suitable management development initiatives that deliver our People Strategic Pillars.
The role will provide individual support through shaping career development plans in line with career competency frameworks through learning interventions. A key part of the role will be liaising with various senior internal stakeholders to understand their departmental requirements, to challenge their approach to learning & development whilst maximising digital resources and providing learner support and counsel to those undertaking apprenticeships and other development programmes.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Develop and launch Career Development Frameworks by Grade ensuring clarity of understanding and familiarity for all HomeServe employees
- Develop and launch the online Manager Essentials Hub making sure our People are aware of and understand the L&D opportunities available to them
- Ongoing procurement, contract negotiation and supplier management of training providers working with our internal legal department to ensure that all learner agreements and standards are reviewed and signed by Board Member.
- Design and deliver MI Reports and learner and provider reviews of external L&D programme facilitators. Compile routine progress reports and reports on key metrics and data. Analyse the MI and data to determine options and recommendations, being proactive in seeking alternative resolutions and solving problems, escalating or flagging key risks when relevant e.g. cross charging, non-attendance, sporadic attendance patterns.
- Promote the value of L&D across the organisation – be a thought leader and expert in workplace human behaviour and proactively offer solutions and learning opportunities to teams and individuals
- Develop and maintain a mentor scheme and educate managers and mentors on their role in supporting and developing their people as part of their job.
- Understand the commitments needed for all our development activity and act as support and counsel for those interested in seeking those opportunities – challenge and advise on what is right for individuals
- Identify talent and skills gaps and encourage take up of our L&D activities to close those gaps e.g. under-represented groups, high flight risks.
- Design and delivery of Management and Leadership Development interventions both at individual and group levels up to and including Head of Departments. Provide creative, innovative and agile learning solutions that meet the changing cultural and social needs of the business.
- Act as the manager development subject matter expert, keeping up to date with external legislation and funding, legislative and regulatory policies, frameworks and models. Be curious – research and understand behaviour and how it affects employees and drives performance.
- Facilitate leadership assessments via feedback and coaching using our suite of psychometric assessments
- Act as a Consultant with local leaders to identify mechanisms to drive team performance and effectiveness through facilitative and coaching events, which in turn will deliver cultural change. Manage the development and innovation of our Career Frameworks and Career Hub to ensure staff engagement through career and personal development. Providing career progression guidance, and career pathways accessible to all staff.
- Develop and create a ‘minimum’ standard of manager ‘soft skills’ and roll it out to all new and existing managers in HomeServe on an ongoing basis
- Align Management Development solutions with talent and succession plans to strengthen our talent pool and develop sustainable leadership and management capability
To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:
- Prior experience and evidence of the ability to identify organisational learning needs, utilising diagnostic tools to uncover root causes
- Experience of human-centred design of learning solutions that provide a return on investment
- Excellent facilitation skills amongst various audiences, virtual and in-person
- Highly adept at coaching (for performance, 360 feedback debriefs or Executive coaching) with evidence of results for individuals, teams and businesses
- Possesses leadership capabilities, able to inspire others through their interpersonal and communication skills as well as their passion for all aspects of development
- Able to hold challenging conversations and drive performance of individuals and L&D providers
- High level of attention to detail and competent at using various Microsoft packages
- Strong team working ethic, connecting L&D with Engagement, Internal Communications and DEI agendas
- Resourceful and resilient approach, able to work to own initiative
- Familiar with learning technology and innovative ways of scaling learning across a business
- Ideally accredited in psychometric tools, coaching and/or training
- Up to date with the latest learning techniques, behaviour change methodologies, and always curious to learn more
- A willingness to undertake additional development in order to facilitate future opportunities
