About the role
Our client is seeking a Mechanical Design Team Leader who will be responsible for the design, construction and production of complex rotating and dynamic components/products! The successful individual will lead a team of 6 while also producing their own designs. This position is suitable for a Senior or Principal Design Engineer who feels ready for the next step into a management position or an experienced team leader/manager who is looking for a fresh challenge.
Applications are invited from candidates with significant industrial experience in a mechanical design role, preferably including rotating or complex dynamic parts. A sound understanding of fundamental engineering principles and their practical application is essential, together with a high degree of proficiency in the use of 3D CAD systems.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Design of close tolerance machined components, castings and moulded parts, pressed metal components, shaft, bearing/seal design and component selection
- Building and managing complex 3D models
- Creation of 2D manufacturing drawings
- Undertaking design analysis including lifetime and strength calculations on rotating parts and structures
- Providing fully documented designs
- Creating design layouts and schematics for design solutions
- Provide engineering support within manufacturing and to customers where needed
- Accountability for cradle-to-grave ownership of a product or design
Your Skills and Experience:
- At least 5 years experience as a mechanical design engineer, with some time at a senior/principal level
- Degree qualified in a mechanical engineering discipline
- Good 3D packaging and visualisation skills
- Structural calculation experience is an advantage, frameworks, welded assemblies etc
- Experience in using ANSYS and/or Solid Edge Simulation for FEA report production
- Rotating machinery design experience
- Good understanding of design for manufacture, machining tolerances, GD&T
- Experience in design in a structured quality environment
- Experience in producing DFMEA documentation
- The ability to manage scheduled design activities to achieve on-time delivery
- Experience working in a proactive engineering environment is essential
